From the time I first spoke, my mother says I was always very expressive. I enjoyed both drawing & writing poetry… each of which told elaborately creative stories. By the age of nine I had already designed my first bedroom… mine! It was ornately French. But, it wasn’t until my teens that, when going out to dinner, did I fully realize how much Interior Design was in my blood, for I was always more interested in the fine restaurant’s decor than what was being served on my plate.

Yet, the logical and mathematical side of my brain was also very strong. So I studied accounting in University, went on to learn business management and eventually became the Vice-President of my family-owned healthcare company. Despite the success, my desire to design burned fiery within as evidenced by the excitement I felt each time I oversaw a new office build-out project for the company. I greatly enjoyed having the final say on space planning, color coordination and furnishings selection.

Eventually, I listened to my inner voice and graduated the prestigious Metropolitan Institute of Design in New York. I quickly became the exclusive designer for a premier decor and home design store on Long Island until opening my own business, Sorell Interiors, an award-winning interior design firm.

My refreshing approach to interior design is what sets Sorell Interiors apart from the rest. An approach that attracts clients from all walks of life and of all different styles & likes. An approach that is simple & effective… Let everything begin with the client, interpret that vision through my expertise, together creating a living space that is beyond expectation! And because of my fastidious attention to detail, it works! Where as some designers have preferential styles, my preference is to make your style all it can be.

I also learned, early on, that Interior Design was about much more than just “making things beautiful”. It was also about function. That is why I tapped into the unique skills of my physician husband. Applying his years of experience in physical medicine to design’s influence on mood & productivity, quickly established Sorell Interiors as the interior design firm for the 21st Century. What now has most recently become known as “The New Normal”.

My personal interests continue to help me grow as a designer. My love of animals has provided me a much deeper appreciation of what exactly is needed by fellow pet owners. My unique knowledge of “pet-friendly” fabrics, finishes and furnishings allows all to live harmoniously under one roof. As an avid Ballroom Dancer I learned how to move gracefully and shape my form. This now helps me every day when I design the flow of a room’s furnishings or the movement of one’s eyes as they  follow the sweeping motion of the window treatments upward to a ceiling’s fresco. As a true Francophile, I’ve gained a sincere respect and true understanding of other cultures which has greatly broadened my design abilities. I’m always excited about what I’m going to learn next!

Considered by many now to be the “Sommelier” of Interior Design, I enjoy educating people about the world of design and how it can positively impact their life. My philosophy has always been that no one should be intimidated by design. Through my frequent blog posts, published design ideas & commentary, my goal is to show anyone how to get the most from their space. So whether they decide to go it DIY-style on their own or with a little, or a lot, of help, they can get the look they desire… and get it right the first time!

Through my affiliations with various industry-leading organizations such as The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) & the Interior Design Society (IDS), I promote honesty, integrity, transparency and professionalism. I hold myself to a high standard of quality and know that I can add value to your home and great enjoyment to your life.

Under my direction as both Principle Designer and experienced businesswoman, I am proud to say that, Sorell Interiors is truly “The BEST of ALL” in one place! I lead a team of innately talented people who totally embrace creative artistry and who are professionally trained & skilled. We thoroughly understand the life-changing benefits of design and the importance of teamwork, deadlines and budgets. It is because of these attributes that Sorell Interiors is what it is today.
